I. AWARITEFE O. D. Theoretical. Utilizing various connection investigation and understudy ââ¬Ëtââ¬â¢test, the Agroclimate components of Oil Palm creation was inspected for a long time periods. Result demonstrated that Agroclimate factors (daylight, temperature and precipitation) are exceptionally connected with oil palm yield. This is clear from a different connection of 74%. It was additionally seen that oil palm yield is more in the dry season than in the wet season. Presentation Any rural framework is a man-made biological system that relies upon atmosphere to work simply like the characteristic environment. The principle climatic components that influence crop creation are sunlight based radiation, temperature and dampness. These climatic parameters and other rely upon them, to a great extent decide the worldwide conveyance of harvests yield and domesticated animals (Ayoade, 1993). He focuses further that atmosphere components apply an affected on all phases of the rural creation chain, including land readiness, planting, crop development and the board, gathering, stockpiling, transport and showcasing. This view has prior be noted by Oguntoyinbo (1983) when he ascribed the gift of the cocoa and kola-nut belt in southwest, oil palm bramble in southeast and the north south edge of waterway Niger including region of groundnut, cotton and rice development to these atmosphere ideas. Be that as it may, atmosphere effect on oil palm has pulled in the consideration of certain researchers throughout the years. Among whom are Manning (1956), Broekman (1963), Oshodi (1966); and Hartley (1988). An assessment of their perspectives shows that Manning (1956), laid out the precipitation prerequisites of chose food and business crops developed in West Africa, and he opined that the mean yearly precipitation for oil palm is between 1500â⬠3000mm in West African Countries. Devuyst (1963) connected oil palm yield with the impact of precipitation alone; utilizing the idea of valuable precipitation. His work anyway demonstrated a positive relationship. He viewed precipitation as the sole specialist impacting oil palm yield, and therefore considers any yield maxima to start in wet season. Broekman (1963) acknowledged the perspective on Devuyst however varies in his finding. He focused on that dry season precipitation is emphatically associated with oil palm yield. To him, it is sensible to aside from that the measure of precipitation during the dry season will be of specific significance, as dampness is a constraining component during this period. Then again, Oshodi (1966) figured the viable development vitality list for some chosen crops in Nigeria. The list was anyway founded on just temperature and precipitation. The Effective Growth Energy (E.G.E) for oil palm in Nigeria is 250-300à °F. Harley (1988) expressed that oil palm yields are connected with dry season precipitation with proportions of compelling daylight, which consider the circulation of such precipitation inââ¬â¢ the dry season. It is obvious from the previous that precipitation and temperature connection with oil palm has been validated, in any case, the connection among daylight and oil palm yield, just as the joint commitment of daylight, precipitation and temperature, has not be validated. Also there are different perspectives on the connection between the seasons and oi l palm yield. Likewise, since the foundation of Nigeria Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR) in 1939 there have been a relative disregard in the advancement of Agroclimatological Research Unit in the organization. While other research units (Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Engineering Research, Agronomy, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Extension and On-Farm Adaptive Research, Entomology, Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology, Plant Physiology and Statistics) have been created. What exists in that unit is a broken down climate station where atmosphere dataââ¬â¢s are gathered and never utilized for inquire about purposes. In this way, the current investigation of Agroclimatic elements of oil palm yield in Nigeria is a result of the craving not exclusively to fill the above holes, however to proffer valuable proposal that will manage both the oil palm ranchers, and the NIFOR authorities on the need to design with the atmosphere of the territory. Hence, the point of the examination is to look at the deg ree to which temperature, daylight and precipitation connect with oil palm yield. STUDY AREA The Nigeria Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR) is found roughly 29km North West of Benin City, Edo State in Nigeria. It was set up in 1939 as Oil Palm Research Station (OPRS) by Nigeria Department of Agriculture. It was taken over in 1951 as West Africa Institute for Oil Palm Research (WAJFOR) by West African Research Organization (WARO). This organ was broken down in 1960 after autonomy, and the station was renamed Nigeria foundation for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR) by Nigeria Institute Act No. 33 of 1964 order reach out to Coconut, Raphia and Date palm investigate. The dirt in NIFOR is corrosive kind of sand which is a significant oil palm developing soil in Nigeria (Hartley, 1988). The dirt are all around depleted and acidic with mud content in changing extent at various profundities. The dirt are insufficient in plant supplement subsequently the extraordinary requirement for manures application to develop palms in NIFOR. NIFOR has a place with the tropical central atmosphere belt of the world, and falls inside the tropical rainforest belt of Nigeria. The district is described with high precipitation and temperature. Precipitation is over 2066mm per annum, and temperature of 30 33à °C. Vegetation here is rich sort thick tropical rainforest, which contains evergreen trees, for example, mahogany, Walnut and so on. The examination organization today has sub-stations and exploratory stations everywhere throughout the nation where yields are developed because of their diverse climatic prerequisites. Calculated ISSUES The most significant idea for this investigation is the idea of atmosphere and horticulture relationship. This idea which have been embraced by Broekmans (1963); Devuyst (1963); Oguntoyinbo (1966); Hartley (1988); and Ayoade (1993) in comparative examinations. uncovers much on how climatic parameters (precipitation, daylight, temperature, dissipation and so forth) are firmly interrelated in their impact to drops. As a result of this yields/plants are developed in a climatic belt that is most appropriate for its development. Therefore all yields can't flourishes well in one atmosphere district. For example, oats and natural products are best developed in the Mediterranean atmosphere while, root yields, for example, cassava flourishes well in district of rich precipitation and temperature (Neiwolt, 1982). Essentially, since atmosphere is one of the most significant common variables which controls the development of plants, plant networks along these lines experience progressive changes. What's more, this is a result of its capacity to adapt to the predominant climatic conditions and furthermore to seek assets of that condition. Subsequently, the kind of plants/crops developed in a territory is identified with the atmosphere. Additionally, the yearly yield and gainfulness of cultivating are predicated on climate components. Truth be told, in this piece of Nigeria, atmosphere notions disturb the effective act of horticulture, and climatic variance makes huge changes for farming produces. It is on this that the development and yield of oil palm is based. Oil palm are found in area with moderate precipitation, high temperature and daylight which empower the natural product to ready (Hartley, 1988). Techniques The information utilized for this examination were removed from the documents of the Agrometerological and collecting units of the Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR) Benin City. Month to month and yearly temperature, precipitation and daylight information were gathered from the Agrometerological division, while the month to month and yearly oil palm yield information were gathered from the reaping unit the two information were gathered for multi year time frames. The decision frequently years depended on accessibility and consistency of information. The seasons were portrayed utilizing a half year (April â⬠October) as wet season and October â⬠March as dry season. Observation study was additionally led round the oil palm cultivates in the organization. Numerous connection examination and understudies ââ¬Ëtââ¬â¢tests were utilized to dissect the information. The numerous connection investigation was utilized to learn the joint connection between oil palm yield and precipitation, temperature and daylight. Aside from the joint commitment of the climatic parameters to oil palm yield, it will likewise empower us to determine the individual commitment of daylight, precipitation and temperature separately to the oil palm yield (Ayeni, I Q94). Understudy ââ¬Ëtââ¬â¢ test was utilized to decide the season with most noteworthy oil palm yield throughout the years: just as to find out whether there is any critical distinction in oil palm yield in the dry and wet season. Conversation OF THE RESULTS The information gathered from the examination are introduced and talked about in the table beneath. Table 1: Annual Oil Palm Yield (tons): Temperature (à °C) Sunshine (hours): and Rainfall (mm) from 1989â⬠1998. From Table 1 over, the mean yearly oil palm yield is 3464 tons, temperature is 32à °C; daylight 147 hours and precipitation 165mm. This indicated a high return, high temperature and a high daylight length separately. During this periods, the best return of 4961 tons was recorded in 1996, this was trailed by 4470 tons in 1989, 39O7tonsinl99O;38lltonsinl995,325ltonsin 1991,3245tonsin1993,3201 tons in 1992, 3177 tons in 1998,2983 tons in 1997 and the most minimal yield of 1632 tons was recorded in 1994. This shows there is no unmistakable example of oil palm yield rather the oil palm yield has being fluctuating throughout the year (See figure 1 beneath). Temperature dispersion during this period is commonly high throughout the years, with the most noteworthy temperature of 32.8à °C in 1997 and the least temperature being 30à °C in 1996. In any case, there is a little variety in temperature throughout the years given a scope of 2.8à °C. Daylight length is likewise commonly high during this period. A human goes through three distinct life span stages, including infancy and childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. The study of developmental psychology focuses on three major issues starting with nature and nurture, which deals with interactions between genetic inheritance and experiences to alter human development (Myers Dewall, 2015). The second issue is the continuity and stages of the human life span. This issue targets the gradual and continuous parts of development and also the abrupt changes throughout each stage of life. Even though all individuals may pass through each stage of life at a different pace, everyone faces them in the same order. The last of the three aspects of developmental psychology is stability and change. This study identifies which human traits carry throughout the entire life span and how they change with age. Stability and change are both key aspects in the progression of age. Part of a humanââ¬â¢s identity is shown through their stability. If an individual is stable with themselves in life, it allows them to depend on others and feel sympathy and care for the development of a healthy child. We will write a custom essay sample on Othello comparison or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Iago uses the power of jealousy to sew thoughts of doubt about Desdemonaââ¬â¢s loyalty into Othelloââ¬â¢s head and gain control over him. Shakespeare uses this theme to be relevant to the plays context in order to engage his directed audience. As venetiansââ¬â¢ were well known for their jealousy over women and their capability of revenge making Othelloââ¬â¢s reaction to Iago talking in Othelloââ¬â¢s ear about Desdemona and Cassio causing him to seek revenge on his beloved Desdemona relevant to the context. Shakespeare shows us how jealousy has the capability to tear peopleââ¬â¢s lives apart through techniques such as metaphors ââ¬Å"Oh, beware, my lord, of jealousy! It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on.â⬠Iago Shakespeare refers jealousy as a green eyed monster and that will mess with a jealous persons mind and ruin them. Similarities of jealousy are also portrayed through Tim Blake Nelsonââ¬â¢s movie ââ¬Å"Oâ⬠. Nelson uses the theme to display how jealousy is still relevant and is a normal feeling to endure as a part of the human condition, whilst also conveying the same message that it can mess with your head and ruin you. Nelsons ââ¬Å"Oâ⬠reflects differences through characterisation as Iagoââ¬â¢s character Huego is portrayed as being the more predominately jealous character. To show this nelson uses repetition of a voice over and reoccurring images ââ¬Å"All my life I always wanted to fly. I always wanted to live like a hawk. I know youre not supposed to be jealous of anything, but to take flight, to soar above everything and everyone, now thats living.â⬠Nelson uses this voice over at both the start and the end of the film to demonstrate Huegoââ¬â¢s jealousy of Odinââ¬â¢s basketball reputation and how it overruns him throughout the film, voice over is used to engage the audience and tell us that jealousy is still relevant and normal to feel without directly speaking to the audience like monologue used in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Othello. Nelson also uses reoccurring images of Hawks to shown us that Huegoââ¬â¢s jealousy remains relevant throughout the whole film. The rights of women in contextual form are differentiated from our accustomed rights in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s play Othello. We see women with very little empowerment as when the play was performed women didnââ¬â¢t have many rights and the males were the dominant gender in a patriarchal society. This is understood in act 1 scene 3 when the duke is questioning Desdemona about her and Othello being married. ââ¬Å"I am hitherto your daughter. But hereââ¬â¢s my husband. And so much duty as my mother showed to you, preferring you before her father, So much I challenge that I may profess Due to the Moor my lord.â⬠This quote by Desdemona shows us that women were property of their fathers and husbands making it relevant to the patriarchal society existing in Elizabethan times when Shakespeareââ¬â¢s play was written. Unlike in Othello women are seen as being more independent and having more rights in the movie ââ¬Å"Oâ⬠. To display this equality of women to Men Nelson uses colloquial language and camera angles. When the duke questions Dessy about Odinââ¬â¢s and her sexual relationship Dessy replyââ¬â¢s with ââ¬Å"Its none of your business!â⬠in Elizabethan times people would have been outraged to see a girl stand up for themselves to a man but through colloquial language nelson makes Dessyââ¬â¢s language relevant to the modern day expectations to engage his audience. Nelson also uses film angles to make the duke almost equal level Dessy to show that women have equal rights to men. Although the school basketball team consists of only men displaying the value that women are still fragile even though they are equal to men some stereotypes still exist about women. As you can see from my comparison of Tim Blake Nelsons movie ââ¬Å"Oâ⬠and Shakespeareââ¬â¢s play ââ¬Å"Othelloâ⬠we can gain a greater insight and engagement of the similarities between the two texts by a significant reflection of the differences between context and universal themes themes by the effective use of language and film techniqueââ¬â¢s. Elizabeth Barrett was born at Coxhoe Hall, Durham, England. Elizabeth was educated at home, learning Greek, Latin, and several modern languages at an early age. In 1819, her father arranged for the printing of one of her poems (she was 13 at the time. ). She lived in Italy for most of the rest of her life with her lover Robert Browning; once they became married she became known as Barrett Browning. William Shakespeare ranks as perhaps the most famous writer in the history of English literature. Shakespeare employed poetry and verse within his dramatic comedies, tragedies, and histories, and he also composed notable individual poems. His poems include a series of 154 sonnets, unusually arranged as three quatrains and a couplet; the development was original enough for it to become known as the Shakespearian sonnet. Sonnet 18 (recited by an actor) comes from The Sonnets of Shakespeare (printed in 1609). Both of the writers had a lot of events to draw inspiration from; Shakespeare had the Great fire of London, the Spanish armada, the crusades and the Globe theatre, where as Barrett Browning had the American civil war, the 100 year war and the likes of Rossetti, Tennyson and Hawthorne. A sonnet is a lyric poem of 14 lines with a formal rhyme scheme, expressing different aspects of a single thought, mood, or feeling, resolved or summed up in the last lines of the poem. The former probably developed from the stanza form of the canzone or from Italian folk song. The earliest known Italian sonneteer was Guittone dArezzo. The form reached its peak with the Italian poet Petrarch, whose Canzoniere (c. 1327) includes 317 sonnets addressed to his beloved Laura. Among Petrarchs followers, who established the sonnet tradition in their countries, were his countryman Torquato Tasso; Luis de Cami es in Portugal; and Pierre de Ronsard, Joachim du Bellay, and other members of the French group known as the Pli iade. The sonnet form was also introduced into the literature of the Slavic countries. Sir Thomas Wyatt and Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey, are credited with introducing the sonnet into England with translations of Italian sonnets as well as with sonnets of their own. The Petrarchan sonnet consists of an octave, or eight-line stanza, and a sestet, or six-line stanza. The octave has two quatrains, rhyming a b b a, a b b a; the first quatrain presents the theme, the second develops it. The sestet is built on two or three different rhymes, arranged either c d e c d e, or c d c d c d, or c d e d c e; the first three lines exemplify or reflect on the theme, and the last three lines bring the whole poem to a unified close. Among great examples of the Petrarchan sonnet in the English language are Sir Philip Sidneys sonnet sequence Astrophel and Stella (1591), which established the form in England. There, in the Elizabethan age, it reached the peak of its popularity. The English sonnet, exemplified by the work of Shakespeare or Edmund Spensers Amoretti (1595), developed as an adaptation to a language less rich in rhymes than Italian. This form differs from the Petrarchan in being divided into three quatrains, each rhymed differently, with a final, independently rhymed couplet that makes an effective, unifying climax to the whole. The rhyme scheme is a b a b, c d c d, e f e f, g g. Barrett Browning uses neither of the two styles completely; she opted for a Hybrid style of her own design, which followed some of each of the two styles formatting but not all. Shakespeares sonnet is a classic Shakespearian sonnet which follows all of the rules of the style of sonnet. Both poets used their own choice of sonnet form to a great affect, to represent their own particular sonnet, however I believe that Shakespeare gets his thoughts and emotions across much more effectively than Barrett Browning, as he has, I believe spent more time on the wording rather than deciding how to lay out the sonnet. Both of the Poets are talking to us about love, they both have had obvious experiences with love and the loss of love in their lives, which is what makes these sonnets really hard to decipher. On one hand you have Barrett Browning who has lost her brother in an accident, and then found true love in Robert, whilst on the other you have Shakespeare who has a strong love for a woman who lies to him thinking him unable to know when she is lying, but him understanding and then deciding to lie back to make her feel comfortable inside. They both talk about how you should be with the person that you love no matter what obstacles lay in your way, because true love conquers all. I believe that Barrett Brownings sonnet has got the most imagery in it as it comes from the heart and therefore is most meaningful, but you cannot talk about love in just words, you have to be able to represent your feelings with actions or images, I believe that Barrett Browning does this perfectly, where she says I love thee to the depth, and breadth and height my soul can reach which is saying that you cannot even begin to measure the amount of her love as you cannot measure the depth, breadth and height that her soul can reach because only she knows that specific distance and she knows that it goes on forever. I do not think that Shakespeare uses imagery at all in the sonnet, as it is not the sort of thing that a male would find particularly easy to do, I should know I am one after all. The reason I think that Barrett Browning is the most effective with the imagery is because she is female and females generally find it a lot easier to talk about how they feel, even if they do have a tendency to talk in code. So in conclusion they both are talking about different types of love, but they both have the same underlining meaning, they both are telling us that love, gods most sacred gift to us must be cherished and above all, we should never take what we have for granted, and always try to think of those we love, and how what we are doing or about to do is going to effect them. I believe that the better sonnet is by far Elizabeth Barrett Brownings as she uses all of her emotions to convey her message, and it shines through, showing the better poet. It was started with a modest dental chair and makes our living room as dental office. After several years of practice and after gaining the confidence of my patient the dental clinic expanded with two modern dental chairs. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY The objective of this working group was to assess and make specific recommendations to improve the quality of reporting of clinical research in implant dentistry and discuss ways to reach a consensus on choice of outcomes. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Many dental procedures are performed in the dental hygiene clinic. The highly skilled and professional staff performs services which include preventive treatment. Health History (including blood pressure screening), Oral Cancer Screening, Periodontal Assessment, Oral Hygiene Education, Necessary Radiographs (X-rays), Pain control (topical/local anesthetic), Oral Prophylaxis (scaling, root planting polishing if needed), Flouride Treatment, Cleaning of Dentures, Smoking Cessation Education, Study Models, Tooth Desensitization and Home Care Aids are included. Procedures are done by first and second year dental hygiene students under the supervision of dental hygiene faculty who are registered dental hygienists and licensed dentists. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY Since the mid-1990s, the focus of studies on tooth wear has steadily shifted from the general condition towards the more specific area of dental erosion; equally, a shift has occurred from studies in adults to those in children and adolescents. During this time, understanding of the condition has increased greatly. This paper attempts to provide a critical overview of the development of this body of knowledge, from earlier perceptions to the present. It is accepted that dental erosion has a multifactorial background, in which individual and lifestyle factors have great significance. Notwithstanding methodological differences across studies, data from many countries confirm that dental erosion is common in children and young people, and that, when present, it progresses rapidly. That the condition, and its ramifications, warrants serious consideration in clinical dentistry, is clear. It is important for the oral healthcare team to be able to recognize its early signs and symptoms and to understand its pathogenesis. Preventive strategies are essential ingredients in the management of patients with dental erosion. When necessary, treatment aimed at correcting or improving its effects might best be of a minimally invasive nature. Still, there remains a need for further research to forge better understanding of the subject. SCOPE AND LIMITATION Modern orthognathic surgical procedures allow correction of bony disproportion in almost any part of the face, but are limited in the fine tuning of tooth position and occlusion. However, carefully planned combined surgical and orthodontic treatment can produce dental and skeletal results of a high standard. If a GDP is presented with a malocclusion beyond the scope of normal orthodontic treatment, then referral to an oral surgery/orthodontic clinic is indicated. This article provides an overview of what the team on such a clinic can achieve. ORGAZINATIONAL CHARTà Of MAYOR DENTAL CLINIC Dr. REGINO C. MAYOR Dra. GLORIA C. MAYOR DENTIST DENTIST Dr. ROMULO Y. CONCLUSION As the overall health of the dental office relies on monies being received and distributed, it is necessary to understand proper protocol and procedures. All of the numerous financial records should be protected for the patients, employees, and employer(s) alike. It is important for the office to receive fees quickly and attribute monies to the proper patient accounts. When those tasks are performed efficiently, office bills and employee payroll can be distributed. These duties can be performed swiftly and professionally via the use of a computer and the corresponding dental software, but also by using traditional manual methods and specialized office forms. The Jefferson Clinton Hotel AssignmentManagement styles. The Jefferson Clinton Hotel - Assignment Example Management styles that have been used Democratic style This is one of the most suitable managerial styles used in any organization. Using this style, the manager does not make decisions on his own. Before any decisions are made, the manager must consult with the employees of the organization. This means that everyone is included in the decision making process. By including the employees in the decisions making process, they become motivated to work in the organization because they were involved which means they are working under the same rules that they helped to create. This management style is particularly ideal in very complex organizational settings like the Jefferson Clinton Hotel. The hotel has employed many workers and this style is the best style that can be used to manage all of them. Persuasive style This type of management style borrows a few skills from the autocratic management style. However, the persuasive manager remains in control over the decision making process. But this manager will spend time with his employees and try to convince them of the benefits of the decision that would be made. The employees do not have a say in the decision making process. However, the employees of the hotel feel like they are motivated because they now see the benefits of the decisions even if they were not involved in the decision making process. This management style is used in the event that decisions require to be made urgently and there is no time to go through the normal decision making process that is normally there within the hotel that involves the employees as well. 3. Consultative style This management style is more of a dictatorial management style, whereby the employees have no say in what happens. However, the decisions are made in the best interests of the employees. This mean s that the needs of the employees are brought forward first. Using this management style, communication between the employees and the management is mainly in a downwards direction. This means that the employees do not communicate with the employees. However, feedback is very much encouraged as it helps in boosting the morale of the employees. The manager therefore consults the employees when making a decision but the employees are not involved in the decision making process. The hotel has adopted these management styles due to the fact that there are some instances where decisions need to be made quickly and urgently. There is therefore no adequate time to go through the normal decision making process where the employees are involved in the process. The type of management style that an organization chooses to use is very important as it can help to develop the organization even further or pull it behind (Greenhaus, Callanan&Godshalk, 2009, p. 178). Leadership characteristics The man ager of an organization is also the leader of the employees in that organization. This therefore means that the leader should be able to lead the employees very well. The employees look up to the employees for guidance and Jackobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14123633710043412947noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8242788723151171883.post-21176915391744704892020-02-07T08:15:00.001-08:002020-02-07T08:15:02.569-08:00Persuasive research paper on hate crimes Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 wordsPersuasive on hate crimes - Research Paper Example In this paper, hate crimes will be discussed and why these crimes should receive a higher sentence than crimes that were not motivated by bias. Hate crimes are committed as a result of bias or bigotry, which is both inherently, learned behaviour (Spillane, 1995 from Steinberg et al, 2003, Card, 2001). Crimes are generally based on a victimââ¬â¢s race, sexual orientation, religion, disability, ethnicity, national origin (Torres, 1999) or gender (McPhail and DiNitto, 2005). Hate crimes encompass crimes from murder to vandalism, the common link being that they were motivated by bias. Most hate crimes are committed by a group of people and target property though some target individuals (Steinbery et al, 2003). Hate crimes are often carried out as a result of a number of prejudices which are difficult to pinpoint exactly. They can often have a domino effect in that one act of violence can lead to many more. This was the case in the hate crimes that ensued after the September 11th attacks on the USA (Steinberg et al, 2003). Hate crimes can lead to a culture of fear and hostility in society and gnaw away at the fabric of society. They not only affect individual victims but target society as a whole. They will tend to have upsetting and persistent effects on the families of victim, institutions to which they belong and they communities which they are from (Hutson et al, 1997 from Steinberg et al, 2003). Hate crime has persisted in America for quite a while (Steinberg et al, 2003). However, the title of hate crimes has is a socially-constructed idea that has only happened recently (McPhail and DiNitto, 2005). 1. Thought hate crimes often target individuals, they are actually an attack against a particular group of people and are to send a message to that group (Hutson et al, 1997,Downey et al, 1999, Mannat et al, 1994 from Steinberg et al, 2003) 2. The motivation for the attack on a particular individual is generally a feature Jackobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14123633710043412947noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8242788723151171883.post-87444325023589667142020-01-29T06:28:00.001-08:002020-01-29T06:28:03.308-08:00The Significance Of The Inspector Essay Example for Free The Significance Of The Inspector Essay What Is The Significance Of The Inspector Structurally, Thematically, Linguistically And Contextually In Priestleys An Inspector Calls? How Could An Actor/Director Portray His Role Successfully On Stage? John Priestly first wrote An Inspector Calls in 1945, although it was not performed in England until 1 October 1946. The New Theatre in London hosted the performance by the Old Vic Company. The play is the story of an upper class family, living in the comforts of pre-WWI Britain. As they finish their dinner, a mysterious police officer (known only as the Inspector) enters and questions the family about the suicide of a young woman, breaking them down and changing their moral opinions. The focus of the play is this journey that the family under go from ignorance to knowledge, brought on by the Inspectors presence. This essay will explore how big a part of the plot the Inspector is and how he could be portrayed in a production successfully. Arguably one of the most important traits of the Inspector is his use of language. He uses his choice of words to change the atmosphere, the mood of the characters and the pace of the conversation. When the Inspector enters at the beginning of the play, he appears in no rush to question the characters or even explain why he is there. This annoys Birling, as he is curious why this mysterious policeman is visiting: BIRLING: Well, what can I do for you? Some trouble about a warrant? INSPECTOR: No, Mr Birling. BIRLING: (after a pause, with a touch of impatience) Well, what is it then? The Inspector uses the familys fascination to ensure that he is always listened to and is in control. He is the only character in the play at this time that knows the purpose of his visit, and this complete knowledge of the case runs throughout the play, and has different effects on different characters. The Inspector feels that everyone should feel a sense of responsibility for each other. He disapproves of the family members attempts to distance themselves from the girl and displays this when talking to Mrs Birling: She came to you for help, at a time when no women could have needed it more. And you not only refused it yourself but saw to it that others refused it to. The Inspector is trying to evoke sympathy for the girl by not only stating facts but also adding extra, emotive details such as when no women could have needed it more. The Inspector also, through his actions and possibly supernatural ways, creates a presence that makes the other characters listen to him without question. It says that when he enters for the first time that he creates a sense of massiveness and purposefulness. The Inspector even manages to do things that would be judged as completely unacceptable by the Birlings if anyone else were to do it, such as interrupting the head of the household: INSPECTOR: (cutting in smoothly) Just a minute Mr Birling. The Inspectors calm and composure creates a sense of authority about him and uses his presence to allow him to direct the conversation when he feels that it is drifting away from the central message of the play. The character of the Inspector not only changes the direction of conversation when he wants to, but also changes the tempo of it according to the attitude of the person he is interviewing. For example, when he is questioning Sheila, the Inspector only lightly prompts her to tell her story: INSPECTOR: (cutting in) Never mind about that. You can settle that between you afterwards. What happened? Through this short open-ended question, the Inspector provokes Sheila to confess to using her influence to ensure Eva Smith lost her job. With someone more tightly lipped, such as Mrs Birling, the Inspector uses lots of short questions, as she is unwilling to give an account of events: INSPECTOR: She appealed to your organisation for help? MRS B: Yes. INSPECTOR: Not as Eva Smith? MRS B: No. Nor as Daisy Renton. INSPECTOR: As what then? MRS B: First she called herself Mrs Birling By changing the velocity of the exchange, the Inspector not only adapts his questions to the suspect but even possibly shock them into a confession. With Sheila the Inspector is supportive, maybe even sympathetic, towards her as she is clearly the most sensitive to the death. As Sheila is already showing remorse for her actions, the Inspector isnt unnecessarily cruel to her, although he is still concrete on the fact that what Sheila did was wrong. With Mrs Birling however, she appears not to regret her conduct or even feel sorrow for the girls death. The Inspector therefore changes his approach accordingly, asking her short questions and trying to get her to empathise with Eva Smith. When this fails, the Inspector then reveals Evas deserting lover to be Eric. The shock of this revelation completely destroys Mrs Birlings mental barrier between her and Eva. Salem Massachusetts became the center of a horrible tragedy, which changed the life of many people. It was a time of fear, because of bad crops, Indian raids, and diseases. The people of Salem Village had to blame something, or someone. The people of Salem Village accused people, and called them witches. They were accused of all those terrible things and more. Salem Village was a small, farming community with a population of 550. It was smaller than Salem Town, and about eight miles away. Salem Town was a large port, and was a prosperous fishing community The two towns had the same minister, and used the same church as the people in Salem Village. At that time there was two groups in the village. Those who wanted to be separate from Salem Town, and those who did not. Samuel Parris was the minister of the group that did want to be separate. He helped divide the groups even more by his sermons. He called the group that did not want to separate, evil and bad, and the group that did, good and righteous. The Reverend Parris and his wife had two children living with them. They were Betty, their daughter, and Abigail, their niece. Abigail and Betty were the reason that the trials started. Before becoming a minister, Samuel Parris had failed at being a merchant. All he had to show for all the long hard years of being a merchant, were the family slaves, Tituba, and her husband, John Indian. Abigail and Betty Parris were having their fortunes told by Tituba, behind their parents backs. Betty started having fits, possibly because she could not bear to keep secrets from her parents. Abigail also started having fits, and instead of getting into trouble, they became popular and respected. Soon, other girls joined in. Most of the afflicted girls lived in the houses of the Parris's and the Putnams, which were the Reverend's family and friends. During the fits, the girls screamed, rolled their eyes back into their heads, shook, and twisted their bodies into impossible positions, and accused peop le of biting and pinching them. They accused people that were against Samuel Parris, or had an argument with the Parris's, or the families of the other afflicted girls. By the end, they had accused most of the people that were in conflict with the new church, or their families. Generally, there are two types of narrators. The first person narrator focuses in-depth on only one character, which could be his or her character, and the impact of other characters on this sole character. Third person narrators provide a comprehensive picture of the different characters and the situations unfolding in the story. While third party narrators receive greater regard for reliability due to omniscience, a first or third person narrator could be reliable or unreliable depending on the character of the narrator and the intention of the novel. The novel Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad is a frame narration, which means the story lies within a story. To achieve this end, there are two narrators. The first narrator is unknown and provides an introduction of the character of the second narrator, Charlie Marlow. The narration describes Marlow as having deep-set cheeks and yellowish complexion but straight-backed indicating he is not heavily built but not frail either. The unknown narrator, by representing the views of the other people on board the ship in describing Marlow as non-conventional or atypical because of his tendency to weave stories and recount tales introspectively, expresses the reliability of his assessment of Marlow. This puts into question the factual manner of Marlowââ¬â¢s narration. In Marlowââ¬â¢s accounts of his trip along the Congo River to fetch Kurtz, an ivory trader trapped in an African village, the focus is more of his interpretation of people and events without much recount of who these people are and the context of the situation. Marlow is clearly against colonialism but do not recount in detail the situation in Africa that makes colonialism repulsive to him and what are the solutions. The trustworthiness of Marlow as a narrator is not clear-cut. Marlow is a decent person but his actions do not always reflect his views. He is against the exploitative nature of the colonial explorers in Africa and feels burdened by the situation but his character is complicit about the situation. He has limited interaction with the natives and does not express their views. Marlow is a competent narrator but only for himself. His accounts do not reflect the experiences and perspectives of the other people he talks about such as the villagers of the communities he visited or the colonial communities in Africa. In Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, the narrator is Pip, who is also the main character of the novel. Pipââ¬â¢s narrative is factual because he tells not only about his good side such as helping people and becoming a gentleman but also of his bad side such as his mistaken impression about Magwich and his embarrassment of Joeââ¬â¢s uneducated ways. Pip is a protagonist in the novel, an orphaned but kindhearted boy, who although frightened to steal food for a thief, causing him guilt, and although yielding to the initial class-based prejudices wrought by society, ended up making things right. The nature of the character of Pip as trustworthy and sensible makes his accounts reliable. Pip is an eyewitness narrator. The novel is a semi-biographical work, which means that Pip is telling his life story according to his own experiences and perspectives. This finds expression in some of the chapter titles such as ââ¬ËThe Convict Frightens Meââ¬â¢, ââ¬ËI Execute My trustââ¬â¢, and ââ¬ËMy State of Mindââ¬â¢. Pip is also the main character. This means that he is competent to narrate his story and the story of the people around him whom he witnessed. This makes his accounts reliable because of first hand experience and view. Although a first person narrator, the trustworthy character of Pip makes him a reliable storyteller of his own life and the life of the people around him. Heart of Darkness and Great Expectations include first person narrators. Although, there is general reservation towards the reliability of first person narrators, the reliability of these narrators also depend on character, plot and intention of the story. Based on the criteria of a reliable narrator, the narrator in Great Expectations is more reliable because of his factual account and trustworthy character while the narrator in Heart of Darkness is not very factual or trustworthy. The third person narrator in Heart of Darkness attests to the atypical character of the first person narrator. Before the American Revolution, preachers and philosophers like John Locke developed many ideas that would influence American colonists to question Britains intentions. Born in 1632 in Wrighton, Somerset, Locke was born as a son of a lawyer. Later on, he was a student at Christ Church, Oxford from 1652- 1667. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Lockes Philosophies On Toleration and State of Nature" essay for you Create order In 1666, Locke met Anthony Ashley Cooper, later known as the Earl of Shaftesbury. Shaftesbury, a minister to Charles II and founder of the opposing Whig party, worked alongside John Locke, in attempt to stop the Catholic duke of York, later known as James II, from succeeding the royal crown in the exclusion campaign of 1679. When that failed, Shaftesbury planned an armed resistance, forcing him to flee to Holland in 1682 for a year with John Locke. Locke would return back to England in result of the appointment of Protestant William III during the Glorious Revolution, where he would publish his most significant works. Over time, two of his ideas transpired into the ideologies of toleration and State of Nature. On a religious perspective, Locke believed in toleration. Although he was a devout Christian, he believe that the use force was not the righteous way to convert people. Locke preached that the government should not be able to use oppression or intimidation to try to bring people to the true religion and that religious societies should not use power on members, or outsiders. Lockes support for this claim arose from ideologies by Jesus of Nazareth and the New Testament of the Bible, both not indicating the use of coercion to convert those of a different religion. The idea that true religion consists of genuine persuasion of the mind, supports the fact that force, especially government force, is incapable of true conversion. Lockes idea of toleration influenced the structure and foundation of which the United States was built on, producing a free nation. In todays society, the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution ensures that the right to free expression of religion is protected. Us as individuals, are able to reside with any religion we prefer. In our day-to-day lives, we are morally obligated to treat each other with respect and dignity. Lockes ideas on toleration created a draft on which direction the United States should head into into the future. Upon the limit of government in the perspective of religion, Locke also believed in a State of Nature. In this ideal fantasy, all forms of government would be absent, but mutual constraints would still exist. Additionally, all people would be obligated to the rights of life, liberty, and property. Lockes idea of natural rights led to colonists realizing that Britain had become too authoritarian as a government. Later on, multiple taxes and duties would be enacted on the colonists by Britain, sparking outrage and riots within the colonies. However, Lockes central ideologies, along with prominent figures who further developed his ideas, would justify the needà for the American Revolution. The theory of State of Nature still affects philosophers today, posing the question if a good government can be legitimate, even if it does not have the actual consent of the people who live under it. In result, the development of a social contract system emerged, where people could replace the government if it did not abide by the peoples guidelines. Consequently, the United States government implemented a checks and balances system between three branches of government and a re-election process of government officials. In order to satisfy citizens who live under a government, the relationship must be mutually beneficial. Without Lockes opinion on this subject, the United States foothold as a global superpower would have never been possible. In conclusion, Lockes philosophies on toleration and State of Nature have impacted our everyday lives. As a predominant nation, the United States have adopted and evolved both ideas in order to form a successful government that both satisfies the people living under the system and keeps the country in order. In our First Amendment of the Constitution, toleration of different religions and opinions are respected in order to support being a free nation. Therefore, if a government does not respect, appeal to, or support their citizens, then they are obliged to replace those in authority. John Lockes influential ideas of toleration and State of Nature have left an everlasting mark on how our society runs today. The era had a vibrant spirit of events. During this era Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote the well-known poem ââ¬Å"Ulysssesâ⬠and it represented how he felt at the time. This poem reveals the determined spirit of everyone that lived in his culture. In the poem Tennyson says that Ulysses has been fighting and journeying for at least twenty years of his life on Earth. Along the way he has observed and learned a lot of things, but he is still not happyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦However as they desired to live in tranquility, they attacked these problems indirectly and from the calmer angle of negotiation to try and evade any serious danger to their meaning of self-control. And since Tennyson is the representative poet of this era, he personified the spirit of negotiation in his poetry more than any of hi s colleagues (Motion, 2010). Tennyson had an interesting opinion about politics. He shared his view with a lot of people at the time who believed in the golden rule, cooperation between the democratic system and upper classes. He believed in gradual development and rejected rebellion. He stated the need of conversion in his poem ââ¬Å"Morte D. Arthurâ⬠; ââ¬Å"The old order changeth, yielding place to new/ And God fulfils Himself in many ways/ Lest one good custom should corrupt the world.â⬠(Review of English Studies, 2009). In the Victorian Era sex was thought about a little differently. The Victorians wanted cooperation between unrestrained extravagance of previous eras and the whole reversal of the purposes of nature. The Victorians allowed luxury in sex but limited its area to connubial felicity and happy married life. Tennyson shows this spirit of the era in his love poems by insisting that true love is only found within a marriage. A Brief Survey of the Phenomenology of Husserl and Heidegger Introduction In general terms, phenomenology is a philosophy of experience. It attempts to understand how meaning is made in human experience, and it sees our lived experience of the world as the foundation of meaning. For phenomenology, how the speaking or writing subject uses language is primary both because it is how we experience its rules and conventions, in their use, and because this is the source of semantic innovation. New meaning, novelty in the world, and the possibility of a future different from the past are some of phenomenologys defining values. In this paper I will be sketching a brief survey of the phenomenology of Husserl and Heidegger. Husserlsâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Evidence is the source of law or test of all human knowledge. The validity of experience as meaningful knowledge rests on the fact of evidence. Whenever philosophical findings are presented as meaningful knowledge, they must be the expression of compelling obviousness. Evidence implies that an entity presents itself to the knowing cognition of man in such a way that it can be looked at in a direct and immediate manner and be regarded as meaningful. Evidence originates when a given, in its disclosure, is experienced as sense by the human soul, by means of an immediate intuition or observation. The correlation between intuition and the given in its disclosure, constitutes the experience called evidence, and is therefore a composite factor of evidence (Theron, 1995). 2. The Concept of Phenomenon Husserl calls the given in its immediate disclosure the phenomenon. Derived from the Greek verb phainomaf, it means to show visibility or to become visible. Phenomenon therefore suggests that which is disclosed, is shown, which is evident. The term Phenomenology was derived from this concept. Philosophy must broach the given or variable in its reality by means of Phenomenology. Husserls call to go back to the phenomenon has dual significance: i. Specialising in sports and racing motorcycles, suited for off-road experience with customised in-house frame. These bikes are manufactured using best ancillary products and services, forming a strong knowledge asset for Dirt Bikes. Having a concentrated work force of 120 workers and 20 employees the company maintains friendly atmosphere with selling rights assigned exclusively to 40 distributors in Western, Midwestern US and Europe. The unique design and latest technology along with intellectual capacity to create bikes with dedicated customer base and sales information with the qualified workforce are part of Dirt Bikes knowledge assets (Pearson, 2010). Identification of relevant Problems or Needs Communication Across Employees Team members across different departments manufacturing the best recreational bikes in the industry seem to have no line of communication within cross departments. This restrict them to exchange information regarding sales, production and distribution or raise query across different levels (Asemi, Safari, Zavareh, 2011). Un-protected Channel of Information The sensitive information to create bikes using aesthetic design and features in order to outperform the competitors are passed on at different levels. This information needs protection and security from releasing out to public until the production takes place to avoid huge financial losses to Dirt Bikes sales (Chan, 2000). Identification of Options or Alternatives Use of Intranet, Emailing and Video Messaging The software will create a smoother line of communication across levels, securing and monitoring important information passed on at each level with a back-up created for it. The system can be generated security by using firewalls and password protection. Enterprise Resource Planning This business software can integrate resources from different department to enable company to control, manage, interpret as well as store data from its previous business activities. It can help company to perform timely cost and production planning, manufacturing or service delivery (Davies, 2009). External party A third party can be appointed to control the management and decision making process. This may be adding further financial pressure but would steam line the internal process for the company. Decision Recommendations As a consulted, on the behalf of Dirt Bikes I recommend using an Enterprise Resource Planning software that could build a strong network across department with the flow of information and data. The intranet would build a strong line of communication as well as protect the sales, manufacturing and production information. Implementation Tactics A well renowned company can be hired that will help in collating all the data using internal database and staff interaction, followed by training the employees during workshop through its team of experts. Assessment Criteria for Success or Failure The new system can be assessed with respect to its success or failure depending on companys performance statistics i.e. through figures of sales, revenue, cost etc. Employees feedback can be taken to identify the systems acceptability and its user ability. A cross department meeting along with the top management can be conducted to understand whether the new database has been of expected use or not (Nowduri, 2010). However, he provides the basis for the development and eventual downfall of Hamletââ¬â¢scharacter. The play begins with a dismal Hamlet mourning his fatherââ¬â¢s death Recognizing this gloom, Queen Gertrude urges Hamlet to ââ¬Å"cast thy nighted color off, andlet thine eye look like a friend on Denmarkâ⬠(I, ii, 68-69). Soon after, the ghost appears, insisting, ââ¬Å"If thou didst ever thy father love, revenge his foul and most unnatural murderâ⬠(I, v, 24-25). As Hamlet decides to scourge the past and present evils in Denmark, theghost unleashes death and malice onto the stage. We will write a custom essay on The Ghost of Hamlets Father specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now The first and most obvious change which the ghost instills into Hamlet is avengeful spirit. Not only must Hamlet destroy Claudius, but he must also stop Fortinbrasfrom invading Denmark. Although less obvious, the second task can be inferred from thefact that the ghost appears wearing ââ¬Å"the very armor he had on when he the ambitiousNorway combatedâ⬠(I, i, 60-61). Hamlet spends the entire play trying to carry out theseorders, eventually causing the downfall of his spirit. Partly because he feels reserve andguilt for his task, Hamlet delays taking action throughout the play. However, thisparadoxical delay only makes Hamlet feel more guilty. He questions his self-worth andeven considers suicide, pondering, ââ¬Å"To die to sleep no more; and by a sleep to saywe end the heartache and the thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir toâ⬠(III, i, 60-63). He cannot accept the goodness of life or destroy its evils. Because of the ghostââ¬â¢s words, Hamlet also becomes incr easingly concerned withhis motherââ¬â¢s sexual relations with his uncle. In his first appearance to Hamlet, the ghostinsults his brother saying, ââ¬Å"Ay, that incestuous, that adulterate beast O wicked wit andgifts, that have the power so to seduce!won to his shameful lust the will of my mostseeming-virtuous queenâ⬠(I, v, 42-45). Hamlet, adopting this malicious spirit, laterresponds to the ghost with a fervent, ââ¬Å"O most pernicious woman! O villain, villain, smiling, damned villainâ⬠(I, v, 105-106). Hamlet now has a valid reason to be disgustedwith both his uncle and his mother and proceeds to confront his mother on this incestualissue. He does this by comparing his father, a ââ¬Å"combination and a form indeed whichevery god did seem to set his seal to give the world assurance of a manâ⬠(III, iv, 61-63), to his uncle, a ââ¬Å"mildewed ear blasting his wholesome brotherâ⬠(III, iv, 65). Hamletfocuses on a minute and inconsequential part of avenging h is fatherââ¬â¢s murder; thus, heThe ghost also induces Hamletââ¬â¢s preoccupation with death and decay, seenthrough Hamletââ¬â¢s many allusions to the subject. Hamlet makes puns involving death: ââ¬Å"Your worm is your only emperor for diet. We fat all creatures else to fat us, and we fatourselves for maggots. Your fat king and your lean beggar is but variable service-twodishes, but to one tableâ⬠(IV, iii, 21-24). He ponders and foresees death: ââ¬Å"I see theimminent death of twenty thousand men that for a fantasy and trick of fame go to theirgraves like beds O from this time forth, my thoughts be bloody, or be nothing worthâ⬠(IV, iv, 60-66). Hamlet even seems fascinated by death: ââ¬Å"That skull had a tongue in it,and could sing once That might be the pate of a politician might it not?â⬠(V, i,67-71). We can assume that Hamlet was not previously obsessed and intrigued by deathand decay. However, with the ghostââ¬â¢s appearance, and with his increasi ng feelings ofguilt, Hamlet becomes more macabre and (covertly) depressed. The ghost ultimately causes Hamletââ¬â¢s destruction by requiring that his son avengehis death. The ghost also causes Hamletââ¬â¢s feelings of self-doubt and guilt thanks toHamletââ¬â¢s procrastination he never even reaches the task of stopping Fortinbras and to his somewhat incestual preoccupation with his motherââ¬â¢s and uncleââ¬â¢s relationship. Theghostââ¬â¢s influence wrenches Hamletââ¬â¢s spirit out of its normal frame so that he destroyshimself while simultaneously destroying his enemies. Attention Getter: In todays society, teens are faced with many pressures. The effect of these pressures put on them is the Inability to make good decisions when It comes to certain situations. Two of the most common situations that teens find themselves pressured into have to do with alcohol and sex when they are not ready. And more often than not, the two are related. B. Relevance: Most of us, being on a college campus, have been around alcohol or drugs, whether we care to admit it or not. According to an article titled Teens Tempting Fate, accessed April 30, 2012, when sober, about 75% of teens remember to use protection. While intoxicated, only 10% remember to use protection. C. Credibility: A few years ago, this very problem happened to one of my friends, and I had to support her as she went through all of the hardships of being pregnant at 16. Her situation got me interested in what can be done to prevent this issue. D. Thesis: In my pollen, the problem of teenage pregnancy should be prevented rather than glorified. E. Preview: To further understand why teenage pregnancy Is such an Issue, I will first discuss some of the biggest causes of teenage pregnancy, then, the effects that media has on a teenagers view of teenage pregnancy, and finally, discuss some f the solutions that have been brought up. Transition: To begin, I will talk about some of the situations that teens are put In that can lead to becoming pregnant at a young age. II. Body A. There are many supposed causes for teenage pregnancies, some more common than others. Most high schools have a health education class. At my high school, this class was required for every student to take their sophomore year. In this class, we learned everything we would ever need to know about our bodies, Including how schools have a sex education program, for others this is not the case. I. According o Judy Cherish, in an interview conducted on April 25, 2012, the high school in her town, Princeton Texas, does not have a sex education program. In 2006, the state of Texas had the highest rate of pregnancies in the entire US. Lack of sex education is said to play a big role in teenage pregnancies. On the flip side, a lot of kids who know all about birth control are simply too scared or to embarrassed to ask about it. Girls might be afraid to ask their parents about birth control because she is afraid that her parents will be displeased that she is having sex. Boys might be embarrassed to go to the local C.V. to buy a pack of condoms. Another big contributor to teenage pregnancy is peer pressure. There are plenty of girls that have been pressured to have sex when they are not ready. When you are young and dont know the difference between right and wrong, peer pressure is an easy thing to give in to. As sad as it is, rape is another source of multiple teenage pregnancies. Sometimes the abuser is a random man, but there have been multiple cases with a friend or family member being the abuser. According to the article Causes of Teenage Pregnancies, accessed earlier this week, in a study, the abuser was at least ix years older than the victim. Transition: Whether a teenager has had a sex deed class or not, most of them have been around the media. B. Certain television shows give an unrealistic impression of what being a teenage parent is actually like. Most of us have heard of the BBC Family show the Secret Life of the American Teenager. In my opinion, this show is accidental glorification of the life on a teenage mom. According to the article The Media Addresses Teenage Pregnancy, accessed earlier this week, the show is centered on Amy, a teenage mother, and everything she goes through being a mother. Now this is where BBC Family goes wrong. Amy is offered a Job that provides free health insurance and free daycare. The father of the baby gets a Job and an apartment, and also helps out with the baby. BBC is giving teens the illusion that everything works out for a teen mother and everyone will drop everything to help out with the baby. They are not showing the realities of being a teen parent. On the other side of the argument, there are some shows that do depict the ugly truth of being a parent so young. Mats 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom definitely make teen pregnancy look like a living hell. These woo shows reveal all of the hardships that come along on the road to being a parent, such as the tough decisions, the financial problems, and they even show the painful births. While these families no doubt are being paid buckets of money to be on this show, it does give a better view on what teenage pregnancy is actually like rather than Abss fantasy version. Although Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant give a good example of what it is like, some girls are still desperate to have a baby, and that will never change. Well researched and written by Teresa Palomo Acosta and Ruthe Winegarten, the non-fiction work attempts to fill in the gaps in the literature on Tejanas while capitalizing on recent primary source discoveries. The work offers a comprehensive look on women of Spanish-Mexican origin in all aspects of life from their origins as Natives to recent political advancements of Tejanas in the United States. A fine accomplishment, there is great evidence and detail and no area regarding these women is excluded from the work. While there is little theme to Las Tejanas, as sections are often unrelated, short, and disjointed, the general idea is the advancement of the women of Spanish-Mexican origin from their earliest days to their liberated accomplishments of the present. The authors accomplish this theme offering little analysis or bias and offer little of the ir own commentary in the work. Thus Las Tejanas reads almost as a fact sheet or a non-opinionated textbook, but the excellent level of detail and the scope of coverage make it an admirable work on the subject of Tejanas. It is difficult to summarize a work as broad in scope as Las Tejanas because the work covers nearly every conceivable aspect of these women of Spanish-Mexican origin. It, however, begins with an important introduction that defines the term and the importance of this study. This is critical that in reading this work, one understands the definition of who is being discussed as well as why it is important and where this work stands in relation to other literature on the subject. The authors use the term Tejana to define the woman who is the study of their subject, but there also are some related terms (xvi). In general, it is very clear who the subject is at this is important as is the aim of the boo... For instance, the office of the prosecutor has attorneys who report to the chief justice, while the police officers stationed at the courthouse report to their superiors at the police stations. The clerks operating at the courthouse are under a senior clerk, who then reports to the chief administrative officer. This makes the employees of the organization to have mixed loyalty, affecting the efficiency in which they conduct their duties (Zhu, 36). To correct this, the organization needs to enact a system whereby there will be an overall officer in charge of the court house, and any officer employed or working at the court house, must report to him/her. SWOT analysis involves a process of identifying areas where an organization is weak, and also strong (SWOT Analysis For Creative Services, 4). It identifies the opportunities the organization has and the threats that the organization faces. In conducting a SWOT analysis, the first step is to collect information about the company, and the particular aspect of the analysis. An individual can use primary and secondary methodologies in collecting information. For instance, an individual will identify and list the strengths, the weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the organization. During this process of collecting data, it is important for an individual to ask questions that touch on the organization. The next process is to prepare a plan of action that outlines measures an organization needs to take in order to strengthen its operations (SWOT Analysis For Creative Services, 6).For example, one of the major weaknesses of an organization is lack of qualified staff who have the capability of providing professional services. Since we only can make a first impression once, cosmetics become indispensable with our lives and then how much advantage a company will be able take of this fact remains on the strategies it adopts in publicizing and marketing its products. The success of an advertisement, in turn, depends again on its ability to make a strong first impression on the customer ââ¬â to produce a ââ¬Ëwowââ¬â¢ effect ââ¬â and obviously it only has one chance to do it. Advertising therefore is a high-stake game in which the success or failure of a commercial can be an issue of life and death for the product. What is shown above is the advertisement of a perfume manufactured by DONNA KARAN NEW YORK or DKNY. What strikes the eye first is a woman ââ¬â no, a young woman ââ¬â no, a beautiful young woman, with an expression in her eyes, looking in your eyes (Faigley et al. 87). The message of the non-verbal expression is not very hard to come across, yet there is a caption that translates it for you into the verbal form ââ¬â BE DELICIOUS. It may be noted that the location of the caption is neither at the bottom nor in a corner, but right in the center of the advertisement. The significance of this setting is that the caption is as striking as the woman. It is one of the first things that catches the viewerââ¬â¢s eye. The image and the caption occupy the entire image so much so that everything else, including the background, becomes irrelevant. Grammatically, the message BE DELICIOUS is not a phrase or clause. It is a sentence ââ¬â an imperative sentence, to be precise. Imperative sentences offer an advantage to advertisers because of their very nature. The subject of these sentences is not explicit, but quite clear and it is YOU. The exhortation is YOU BE DELICIOUS and the temptation Jackobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14123633710043412947noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8242788723151171883.post-66791838515996199562019-11-17T19:26:00.001-08:002019-11-17T19:26:04.743-08:00Pathos, Ethos, and Logos Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 wordsPathos, Ethos, and Logos - Essay Example In his letter, Jefferson uses Pathos, Ethos, and Logos to argue his point of view. This is a strong, well-written letter. Pathos is used by pointing out the millions of trafficked humans. Ethos is used by Jeffersonââ¬â¢s reference to his belonging to the Human Rights Watch. Logos is used by appealing to specific problems like the lack of statistics and definitions. This letter is impressive mostly on the Ethos and Logos to persuade the reader to understand his point of views. Jefferson makes the reader feel angry and disappointed by the lack of research and measures done by the United States when some countries fail to address trafficking. ââ¬Å"Trafficking is a blatant violation of human rights and is almost universally condemned, yet many countries are failing to address this problem seriouslyâ⬠(Jefferson). He creates emotion to the readers, so they can get the message he wants to share. This is an appeal through Pathos. Jefferson does not show real anger in his letter because it was written for the Secretary of State, so due respect must be given. This is the lack of Pathos from Jeffersonââ¬â¢s letter. Although the reader can feel the anger and disappointment, it is not clear enough. One or two sentences appeal to the Pathos, but mostly logos and ethos were used. An example of one sentence is as follows, ââ¬Å"trafficking is a widespread human rights violation that threatens the lives, health, dignity, and security of millions of people thr oughout the world, with women and children suffering the brunt of the abusesâ⬠(Jefferson). Despite this plea, Jefferson does not use many others. It seems that Jefferson was relying on Powellââ¬â¢s knowledge on the subject, not his emotions. Although Jeffersonââ¬â¢s letter has lack of emotion, the credibility of his letter is really impressive. He used Ethos to strengthen his argument. Frequently Jefferson refers to Human Rights Watch when stating a request or opinion instead of asserting it on his Jackobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14123633710043412947noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8242788723151171883.post-90389895011601165322019-11-15T07:58:00.001-08:002019-11-15T07:58:16.433-08:00What Is The Effect Of Mcdonalds On Society Cultural Studies EssayWhat Is The Effect Of Mcdonalds On Society Cultural Studies Essay Most prominent changes came with the arrival of fast foodà restaurants likeà McDonalds into foreign countries, transformational have taken set which could be clearly as favorable or undignified to that culture. There are 1.5 million franchises in the US but there are about half of the total franchises are outside of the U.S. in over 120 countries. All the reputation and destiny of McDonalds, there are fear about how the broaden of standardization of the franchise is affecting culture, manner and the environment. In fact, the McDonalds has proved to the local culture to adopt their culture. The globalization of McDonalds creates many argues on equally both sides of the issue. The pro- globalization hopes are that it develops culture rather than ruin. à . McDonald does also modify its regional menus to proof to local taste. There has been a effect of traditional values with the arrival of nontraditional food items into the culture of foreign countries. The kinds of food items are representative to particular regions, religions and society. To give an example, Indian Hindus and Sri Lankan Buddhist people, believes that the cow is to be holy to their religion. Diversity can be originated in Indias food and its culture. McDonalds is viewed as American and the society away from conventional foods towards fast food is measured to be Americanizationà of the diet. This perception has more far attainment effects than is seen on the surface. The Americanization of the food also shows that the culture and a way of thinking which in not acceptable to many states. Although they have done many changes in the eating habits of the nations influenced by the culture of McDonalds there has been many positive aspects. With the development of technology and communication the world it seems to be moving faster. The initiation of fast food into foreign cultures allows the opportunity to keep up with this fast development. Culture is ever changing and thus McDonalds moving to another step in the growth of culture with the changes. Now the menu has given people a new choice over the traditional foods eaten in the past. Strategies of McDonalds The companys ability to determine what consumers want and need and adapt to that is a major strategy they are using according to the culture differences of countries. Another great McDonalds strategy is, such as the delivery service offers even though in crowded cities such as Shanghai. Not only does the company make more sales by catering to the traffic-challenged, time-constrained, and lazy, it saves itself some money at the same time, because delivered meals require no table clean-up at the restaurant. Currently government around the world criticizing the fast food items because of the health issues, some countries are taken some actions to band TV advertisements of such fast food items due to the health conscious. Therefore McDonalds have done dramatic changes on their menu items with healthier salads, fruits and small portion size to encourage the balanced and healthy life style. Rather than implementing new technology to replace human labor, McDonalds is using a youthful workforce in an every country. it has beautiful appearance , brightly lit and climate control, seats ,tables , kids play materials, organized vehicle park, shiny counters creates open and cheerful environment in all country of McDonalds. Employees wear bright color and neat dress and smiles at customers while they working efficiently. Even employee has responsible for cleaning the toilets and floors work in a discipline manner. Outlet menu displays in the behind of the counter with soft backlighting and the photographic image of the food items. And open , clean, kitchen are shows to the customers how the hamburgers and fried chicken are prepared. It seems to be conveying gender equality and attracted the female consumers. And adjustment in behavior of McDonalds outlets in other country culture is a great strategy of McDonalds. Earlier McDonalds operated it services till the evening hours, bu t now days 40% of McDonalds are staying at night ours also because of the culture of night works. Culture Diversity of McDonalds McDonalds in Japan In 1971, first McDonalds was established by Den Fujita, president of Fujita Shoten in Japan in 1955. Perhaps the culture of Japan is almost like Asian culture the code of their food preparation is shows their culturally oriented society. The lunches are made by home and must be consumed quickly and entirely by sharing. Rice is so symbolically vital to Japanese culture that Japanese say they can never feel full until they have consumed their rice at a particular meal or at least once during the day. Here food preferences shows their culturally oriented. Earlier look and feel of both the products and stores of McDonalds were similar to those in the United States.à After some experimented they have done slight changes in their menu of food items according to the Japanese culture under one of McDonald guiding principles which is known as a commitment to exceeding customer expectations. And there is a wonderful culture they are having like Asian, eating together at one table, is innermost to the Japanese. It creates a sense of community. It is the essence of a food that bonds families and creates social relationships. But McDonalds hamburgers are meant to be eaten individually and cannot be shared therefore they introduced like Mc rice in Asian counties. And also their cultural physical arrangements of restaurants also changed to their expectation. Japan had neither tables nor seats; there were counters in which customers were expected to eat their meals on theà go. So they included tables in the layout, although the first floor of the restaurant is to ordering foods and others for seating areas. It is not only a place for great fast food in Japan but also a wonderful place to take a nap when they are coming from a late nights work. There are always people sleeping in McDonalds and also can see people studying over there, they most probably leave their stationery items and bags there. Often can see somebodys bag just left on a seat or a table its the owners way of saying this is my seat dont even think about it. They walk in, leave their bag where they want to sit and then go to order their food. It is look like a cafe, having comfortable seat. (Appendix-1.1). Mc Donalds of Japan is having different culture rather than other country McDonalds. Generally if you left your belongings on the tables like that, people would just leave them alone, However, I havent heard anyone sleep or study in McDonalds before. According to our culture if anybody did it will be made as a guilty thing for them, but it is happening in Japan published photographs in websites are proving that. It is showing their culture of Cinnamon melt anyone whos try them should agree they are the best, McDonalds adopting their culture and providing services according to their culture. Although McDonalds uses Australian beef unaffected by mad cow disease, the fatal brain-wasting ailment, Japanese consumption of beef and Big Macs dropped sharply at the time McDonalds in Hong Kong The first McDonalds of Hong Kong was established on 1975. Already they had the culture of fast food. They are giving more preferences to time, so other restaurants. Now eco-ethnic- pretentiousness is going out of the way. Generally Honk Kong wedding especially for the working class and the rich is a pressure and often financially crippling ordeal. Typically Hong Kong couple spends $29,000 on their wedding, and their average monthly income in Hong Kong is about $2,250. And they have the traditions, viewed as so troublesome by many young Chinese thus their wedding falls to a joyless, domestic and societal responsibility that leaves them with a heavy debt and little in the way of loving memories. Therefore they introduced Mc Wedding in Hong Kong to have a great wedding for young couples. It will be the first city in the world to roll out McDonalds wedding packages for couples introduced on January 1st, 2011.à Wedding package starts around $1,000. And the package is include with a ceremony, reception, decorations, personalized menu and catering, complete with an apple pie wedding cake, dress made out of party balloons, kiddies party favors for gu ests, and catering by McDonalds.à Now many people in Honk Kong celebrating their wedding at McDonalds, it shows they are adopting the culture of American whos celebration typically as joyful and independently. Although introduced joyful wedding celebration strictly Alcohol is banned, so newlyweds will have to toast their union with soft drinks instead to maintain McDonalds guiding principles.à McDonalds changed the young culture in Hong Kong, but it would be great impact to their culture might be create the unhealthy nature and environmental impact of fast food. It does issue for many cultures, would be effect their own culture value, rather supporting the community through improvement. McDonalds offered a rice burger a meat patty sandwiched by sticky rice molded into a bun in Taiwan, Singapore, the Philippines and Hong Kong who giving preference for heavy meals. Like the Japanese, the locals in Hong Kong viewed hamburgers as snack food. The corporate culture of McDonalds has traditionally been to offer value meals but, Identifying a way to collaborate McDonalds food with the Hong Kong culture and he has been successful. McDonalds has a research centre in North Point (Hong Kong) where it studies the quality of foods. à The areas that this office focuses include Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and 37 markets of Africa.à This centre has created many new products within the McDonalds market. Today, McDonalds in Hong Kong continues to offer plain hamburgers at breakfast, but the dietary preferences of the locals are now more compatible to Americans. . Eventually concludes that the Mc World theory is somewhat do changes to exceeding customer expectations under their guiding principles. It is difficult to convincing from Jackobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14123633710043412947noreply@blogger.com0
